Don't Eat Less, Eat Right

The premise of ' Don't eat less, Eat Right' is pretty much self explanatory but has some reallt really interesting points hidden inside.

One point being that if we eat healthily we will lose weight as side result. So make you aim to eat healthy and don't focus on the weight loss because it will happen.

The next point is that this piece of weight loss advice fits in with what we at Mind Body Weight Loss believe is the best weight loss strategy ever:

"The best strategy we have got is to just add in good stuff and eventually it will crowd out the bad stuff. It’s so simple and deactivates the mental neurosis we have about diets and what we have to eat"
Source – David Wolfe
The final point that I feel this tip falls under is the 'Eat Less CRAP, Eat More FOOD' because if you eat less crap and and eat more healthy food you are still eating the same amount, but the difference is that you are eating more healthy and as a result the weight will come off.

I hope you found this post helpful.

Time to Lose Weight

The name of the blog post, Time to Lose Weight, has 2 meanings.

The first is the time to be and eat healthy to lose weight is always now, remember our post 'The Power of Now for Weight Loss'.

The second is that we all may struggle for time to achieve our goals. I know I do at times because I expect we all have busy lives. This was until I read this quote, which changed my perspective:
"Don’t say you don’t have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Pasteur, Michaelangelo, Mother Teresa, Helen Keller.
Source - kkoolook.com

Wow that is so powerful because following the the NLP idea of modelling if someone else can complete so much in 24hrs with the right motivation, attitude and techniques we can too.

Isn't life amazing and full of limitless possiblilities!

Your Body Affirmation

This image is such a great affirmation to use, I just really wanted to share it with you today:

"My Body is like canvas
Motivation is my brush
I control every curve
and make no excuses
I turn heads
and hold my head high
I have no bad angles
I am confident in every light
I break limitations
quitting is not an option"

I really felt this was a powerful and motivating affirmation to repeat to yourself over and over to get you in the right frame of mind to lose weight and take control of your body.

5 Ways To Think Yourself Thinner

These are the five ways Lauren Conrad suggests to think yourself thinner:

  1. Out of site, Out of mind: Clean out your kitchen and get rid of the junk food to eliminate temptations
  2. Portion Control: Trick the mind into thinking you are eating more by putting meals on smaller plates
  3. Drink up!: Sip on water in between meals when you think you might be hungry. Chances are you are just thirsty
  4. Eat until 80% full: Taking smaller bites, eating slower, and avoiding distraction like TV will make a difference and help you slim down faster.
  5. Take a hike: When you're bored and want a snack, get and take a walk instead.

Food is Fuel

I have just found this Fuel is Food metaphor to help you lose weight and I really had to share it with you!

"You wouldn't starve your car of fuel and expect it to run efficiently would you?

Successful weight loss is not about starving, it about fueling your body with the healthy, low calorie food it needs to help you lose weight."
This fits in with what we at Mind Body Weight Loss feel is the best weight loss tip ever!

Stop Trying To Lose Weight

I know this sounds very odd advice coming from a motivational weight loss blog like Mind Body Weight Loss, but it is true in so many ways.

The first and most important part of 'trying' is that to the subconscious mind and with in hypnotherapy 'trying' presupposes failure. This is because it gives you the option to fail, you are not pledging to do it, you are just saying you are going to attempt it and the easiest way out of an attempt is to fail or quit.

So if we should not try to lose weight, what is the other option? Well I think Yoda from Star Wars put it best - "Do or Do Not. There is no try".

Can you see the difference in 'trying' to lose weight you leave yourself the easier option of failure, but by choosing to do weight loss or choosing not to do weight loss you are choosing one of the absolute options and are therefore much more like to achieve your weight loss goals.

So if you want to 'do' weight loss why not read our blog or website, sign up to our eNewsletter and checkout some of the fantastic products Mind Body Weight Loss believe can help you.

The Power of Now for Weight Loss

The Power of Now for Weight Loss has ideas based from Eckhart Tolle's book called, you guessed it, "The Power of Now" The premise is like many other philosophies and self help suggestion that any change we want can on come from this moment right now.

The key here is to accept our current predicament exactly as it is, because from this foundation of acceptance we can control all the controllables to our life in any one of almost infinite possibilities and directions.

There is no point dwelling in the past as we can not change the past, but in the present we can change our perspective to it. For example that bad thing that happened in the past, is now my motivation to ensure I achieve my goals and prove that person wrong.

There is no point focusing too much in the future because we can only control the future by our action in this moment right now, right here. So in the moment you have the power to choose the best behavior or action to make your ideal future at your ideal weight. The power is now, the power is yours!

Walk, Cycle or Drive?

This nice little image sets the scene for a question to ask yourself before you go anywhere. And that question is 'Shall I Walk, Cycle or Drive to my destination?"

Walking and Cycling are the ones which run on your fat and saves you money.

Where as Driving runs on money and makes you fat.
To me this bit of information is a game changer in relation to changing our behaviour to aid weight loss.

I hope, like me, you can see how this question can effect your weight loss.

Real Fast Food Is Not Fat Food!

This image above helps me understands that most 'Fast Food' just has one letter too many and could be called 'Fat Food'

"Real fast food isn't fat food'

Also this quote and picture has firmed my belief that the fasted food you can eat is natural fresh foods like apples, carrots, broccoli, bananas. You see the advice for true fast food should go like this; if it has no packaging, if it has no labels, if you are sure edible and healthy, if you can eat it raw or cooked then this is true 'Fast Food' because it isn't 'Fat Food" it is "Fab Food" for you, your health, weight, life longevity.

7 Amazing Tips On How to Visualise Losing Weight

We at Mind Body Weight Loss know how important visualization is, however you may not know how to use it in your day to day. Well! Have no fear Can Do Craig is here! Mmm, sorry about that, any way lets get to it!

Now let us start with a few home truths. You are not going to be able to do this right away you will have to practice, practice and practice. Also love the process, enjoy it and know that it will work for you! Because it will work!

1. Write down as many things as you can that you love about your self, do this every day!

2. Sit down or lie down and relax for 20-30 minutes, without any distractions. Practice until you feel relaxed for the whole 20-30 minutes.

3. When you have mastered number 2 focus on your breathing inhale though you nose and out through your mouth counting to 5 as your exhale. Again practice, practice and more practice. You will feel so relaxed, I know I do!

4. Ok! Sit down or lie down and repeat 2 and 3 together remember Practice!

5. Now you have practiced 2 and 3 together it is time to relax all the muscles in the body starting from your head all the way down to your toes.

6. Now it is time to visualise what you will look like when you are at your target weight. You will have to really feel what it would feel like, for example! Think of your self on a beach taking in the rays of the sun, putting sun lotion on your perfect new body, here the sound of the sea and birds.

7. Finally, my last tip is to smile. This really makes you feel good and happy.

I hope this little guide is helpful. Just remember to practice! It really does work it has been proven time and time again. Read more post on this very blog to see for your self.

From a Bowl not a Packet

In an earlier post we mentioned, the Sherlock Holmes of Food, Brian Wansink in this post we have another of his interesting food studies.

Brian studied to see the if eating from a bowl changed the eating habit in comparison to eating from the packet.

The results were very interesting and powerful as he states that we eat 20 to 30 % more when we eat from the packet and the bigger the packet the more we are likely to eat.

The theory goes that we should see what we are eating, Wansink put it like this:

"Always portion food out into a dish so you must face exactly how much you'll eat."

When I think about packaging design, it is all fully covered so we can not see what is inside, I wonder if this the psychology to make us eat more?

Take care.

Weight Loss Motivation - Change

This is quote helps demonstrate the point that most people take action and decide that their weight loss has to happen, with Desire, Belief and Expectancy as mentioned by Jose Silva, when the pain of not changing is greater than any pain perceived in the actual change itself.

''Change happens when the pain of staying the same is great than the pain of change."
It really made me think and I can actually say any bug changes I have got to that point and just gone for it! It has always paid off too.

Attitude is Everything

Today I would like to share a story I found. At the end, or even as you read, you will see how this can apply to weight loss and help you.

ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING
By Francie Baltazar-Schwartz

Jerry was the kind of guy you love to hate

He was always in a good mood and always had something positive to say

When someone would ask him how he was doing, he would reply, "If I were any better, I would be twins!"

He was a unique manager because he had several waiters who had followed him around from restaurant to restaurant

The reason the waiters followed Jerry was because of his attitude. He was a natural motivator. If an employee was having a bad day, Jerry was there telling the employee to look on the positive side of the situation

Seeing this style really made me curious, so one day I went up to Jerry and asked him, "I don't get it! You can't be a positive person all of the time How do you do it?"

Jerry replied, "Each morning I wake up and say to myself, Jerry, you have two choices today. You can choose to be in a good mood or you can choose to be in a bad mood.' I choose to be in a good mood. Each time something bad happens, I can choose to be a victim or I can choose to learn from it

I choose to learn from it. Every time someone comes to me complaining, I can choose to accept their complaining or I can point out the positive side of life. I choose the positive side of life."

"Yeah, right, it's not that easy," I protested. "Yes it is," Jerry said

"Life is all about choices. When you cut away all the junk, every situation is a choice. You choose how you react to situations. You choose how people will affect your mood. You choose to be in a good mood or bad mood. The bottom line: It's your choice how you live life." I reflected on what Jerry said

Soon thereafter, I left the restaurant industry to start my own business

We lost touch, but often thought about him when I made a choice about life instead of reacting to it. Several years later, I heard that Jerry did something you are never supposed to do in a restaurant business: he left the back door open one morning and was held up at gunpoint by three armed robbers. While trying to open the safe, his hand, shaking from nervousness, slipped off the combination. The robbers panicked and shot him

Luckily, Jerry was found relatively quickly and rushed to the local trauma center. After 18 hours of surgery and weeks of intensive care, Jerry was released from the hospital with fragments of the bullets still in his body

I saw Jerry about six months after the accident. When I asked him how he was, he replied, "If I were any better, I'd be twins. Wanna see my scars?" I declined to see his wounds, but did ask him what had gone through his mind as the robbery took place

"The first thing that went through my mind was that I should have locked the back door," Jerry replied. "Then, as I lay on the floor, I remembered that I had two choices: I could choose to live, or I could choose to die

I chose to live

"Weren't you scared? Did you lose consciousness?" I asked. Jerry continued, "The paramedics were great. They kept telling me I was going to be fine. But when they wheeled me into the emergency room and I saw the expressions on the faces of the doctors and nurses, I got really scared. In their eyes, I read, 'He's a dead man. " I knew I needed to take action."

"What did you do?" I asked. "Well, there was a big, burly nurse shouting questions at me," said Jerry.

"She asked if I was allergic to anything

'Yes,' Ireplied. The doctors and nurses stopped working as they waited for my reply... I took a deep breath and yelled, 'Bullets!'

Over their laughter, I told them, 'I am choosing to live. Operate on me as if I am alive, not dead."
Jerry lived thanks to the skill of his doctors, but also because of his amazing attitude. I learned from him that every day we have the choice to live fully. Attitude, after all, is everything .

You have 2 choices now:
1. Do nothing and continue as you are
2. Change your attitude to weight loss
Hope you will choose choice 2

If you chose number two perhaps these product could help you get started:

I hope you found this story as helpful and inspiring as I did.

Hunger and Emotions - Eating When You Are hungry

Because hunger and emotions are experienced in the stomach area of the body sometime it can be hard to tell the difference. The importance of Eating when You are Hungry is highlighted because if you eat because of your emotions you are much more likely to put weight on. What this post is aim to to is share a few of pointers of how you recognise your hunger and act upon it.

  1. Eat regular healthy meals this way you won't have extreme feelings of hunger
  2. Use a hunger scale, this helps set in a conscious way exactly how hungry you are, this is great way to tell the difference between emotions and hunger
  3. Consciously eat being fully aware of the tastes, textures, smells and the messages your body is sending. One great way to experience eating consciously is to try the 'Eating a Raisin Experiment'
  4. Be kind to yourself and make your life easier, for example checking your hunger scale to see if it above 5 prior to any food shopping trip.
I hope you have found this post helpful and remember to ask yourself next time you think you are hungry. How hungry am I on the hunger scale.

Take care and happy weight loss.

Soup Portion Control Experiment

Brian Wansink who has been called the Sherlock Holmes of food carried out a study which we call 'Soup Portion Control'. What he proved was that at our eyes are indeed bigger than our stomachs. He did this by giving 60 people a bowl of soup, half the people had a normal bowl of soup. the other half had a special bowl designed to refill itself with out them knowing.

The purpose of the study was to see if we listened our body and it's message that we have had enough food or do we listen to the bowl or plate. The answer was clear from the results when the group with the self filling bowl group ate a staggering 73% more than the people with a normal bowl.

This clearly shows the power of mindful eating and listening to your body and following the Hara Hachi Bu model of stop eating when you are 80% full because your stomach takes around 20 minutes to register as full.

I hope you found this interesting and helpful and I believe that if you use the mindful eating method it will help you loads with your weight loss.

You Are in Control

How empowering! It means that like others before you who have achieved the goals that you want you to can achieve them, if you decide too.

It is said by the Silva Method that once you decide to be who you want to be you need 3 things to make it happen:
  • Desire
  • Belief
  • Expectancy
A nice little zen story about desire makes will make you think:

A man approaches a Zen Master and asks to be shown the path to enlightenment. The Master replies, “Okay, follow me,” stands up, and walks the man to a nearby river and into the water. Without warning, the Master forces the man’s head under the water and holds it there as he struggles violently for his life, until he is nearly dead. At last the Master pulls the man up, gasping for air, and says, “When you want to be enlightened as badly as you wanted to take your next breath just now, come back and see me.
Belief, like I said earlier, if some else can do it, then there is no reason you can not achieve it too. NLP is a great believer in this by suggesting 'Modelling'. This means that following the same procedure and actions as the person who lost the weight and achieved the goal like yours. This is a great way to develop the belief because you have seen it work for somebody else.

Expectancy means expect the results to happen, and why shouldn't you because you know it will happen for you too.

Some People you may like to 'Model' your weight loss on could be:
I hope you found this post helpful in working towards your weight loss goals, we at Mind Body Weight Loss will support you in achieving this.

Visualization for Weight Loss

Visualization for Weight Loss is amazing! Once you set your target weight, visualize what you will look and feel like. Studies have proven the brain can not tell the difference between what is real and visualized because it uses the same part of the brain for both!

There are a few studies you can check out which back this up, the first is called the 'The Little Finger Strength Test", another is the 'Basket Ball Test' and the final one I can think of right now is the 'Piano Practice Test' The very interesting think about this is that each time a similar test is run they proof the same thing. The mind can not distinguish between what is real and imagined. Empowering isn't it!

As Can Do Craig once said "Olympic Athletes use visualization to improve their performance. You could use it to Improve Your Weight Loss Performance." This is supported by what Dennis Waitley has said about goals:

"The reason most people never reach their goals is that they don't define them, or ever seriously consider them as believable or achievable. Winners can tell you where they are going, what they plan to do along the way, and who will be sharing the adventure with them."

So what can you do to help you define your goals.

  • Be clear on what you want
  • Believe you can achieve your goal
  • Picture your self achieving it over and over.
  • Create an affirmations to re-enforce your goal and belief
  • Do something towards your goal each day

I hope this helps you on your journey, one visualization I created (see below) a little while ago is called the 'Control Panel' you may find it good place to get you started.

Getting Started with Weight Loss Tip

This Getting Started with Weight Loss Tip is great and a fantastic way to getting motivated and in a way fits in with what David Wolfe advices in his great weight loss philosophy of adding in more good food, rather taking away the bad and unhealthy.

It is a really positive piece advice that can have a big different on any ones life. Just be aware of how good the first step feels and understand that you can make that multiply by taking bigger and bigger positive steps in the coming hours and days.

Those small changes will become bigger and you will be glad you started now"

"Your mother didn't spend 9 months forming you body in her just so you could destroy it. Love it and make it the best you can."

Meal Sizes and Portion Control

I found this quote which really made me think as it fits in nicely with what I read about Buddhist weight loss.

"Eat Breakfast like a king, Lunch like a prince and Dinner like a Pauper"
Source - Work Out Box

The reason behind this is best illustrated in the picture above. but also a quote from a post entitled 'The Five Contemplations While Eating' suggests why it is better to eat more in the morning according to Buddhist monks:

"I have read an interesting way Buddhist Monks eat only in the morning and why. The theory goes something like this; In the morning one hour before and one hour after sunrise the large intestine are at the most productive. The technique the monks use is to not eat until there is enough sunlight for them to see the lines on the palms of their hands. They will eat as much as they like at this point up until the sun is at its highest point (midday). The rest of the day the can drink as much water as they wish. They say that water is a great way to plug the hunger should they have any, however if they are hungry at any point through out that day, the next morning they will have more appreciation for the food and the people who supplied it."
Source - www.mindbodyweightloss.info

We would love to hear from you if this method of eating alot for breakfast, alittle less for lunch and a small dinner is something you have tried yourself and if so what results you got.

Zen Weight Loss Tips - Part 4

Hello welcome to our final part of Zen Weight Loss Tips.

Create a routine for what you eat – for a month, do not think of food as something to be enjoyed, think of it as fuel.

All I can say to this is Eat to live rather than Live to eat.

Take the stairs. Walk or bike ride that short distance instead of driving.

Such good advice look in to way we can do more day to day natural movement.

Everything in moderation. If you really want French fries and a hamburger, or ice cream, or a cookie… it’s OK to indulge a little occasionally. Key word is occasionally. Better to indulge a little, than to binge later.

This is so true what ever you may deny you body it may crave it. Moderation is the key but keep adding in the healthy stuff to your food routine and you will great, to learn more about this visit this post.

Trusting your Body

Trust is one of the most importance things in life along with acceptance. Acceptance gives you the base from where to start and trust enables you to develop the most healthy belief to achieve the weight loss goals.

We need to believe that it’s even possible. We need to know that our body is not at war with us, that it’s not fighting our weight loss efforts. The body is always doing the best it can to make us feel healthy and safe. When we can trust our body, listen to it, and respect its innate wisdom, we relax on a deep level. From that place, natural weight loss is possible. Some of the best things in life happen to us because we trusted.

The premise of working with our body instead of fighting it is a great point because by trusting it to do what we want is a great way to develop the belief and you know what, the body generally follows its beliefs. Just think of the Placebo effect where someone takes a sugar pill with no medical value yet it cures their ailiment. They are trusting the tablet to cure them, so trust in your body to lose weight and it will in harmony with your thought.

To end I would like share one my favourite Louise L Hay affirmations.

"I trust in the process of life to bring me my highest good."
If you have to trust in something trust in the best for yourself be that your highest good or that your body will do as you required to keep you at your healthiest.

Take care and speak soon.

Zen Weight Loss Tips - Part 3

Welcome the third part of Zen Weight Loss Tips we hope you are find this series of post helpful.

This section focuses on Healthy eating.

Water water water. It kick-starts your metabolism. Stop drinking soda.
This is such great advice, I think I read somewhere that we are made up of 90% water so drinking it can only be a good thing. Also check out this post which explains what fizzy drinks does to your body it may stop you drinking them, like it did me.

Be mindful of what you are eating. Keep a food journal or diary. Seeing it in writing always gives it weight and helps reveal patterns or triggers.
Eating consciously is a fantastic way to lose weight, with no distractions you can listen to when you are full. Learn how to eat consciously from this post.

Eat mostly raw fruits, veggies and nuts.
Such a great tip which we at Mind Body Weight Loss love and have a post called 'Eat Less CRAP, Eat More FOOD' which explains more

Cut out sugar.
In the documentary 'Hungry for Change' sugar was compared to cocaine because the sugar plant like the coca plant is good for you. It is just the refining of both products which make them harmful to us as living beings.  Also check out the post title 'Sugar and Obesity' which also has an interesting excerpt from a radio show which explain Sugar and its effect on your body further.

Positive change is easier than negative change. Instead of thinking of foods that are “bad” and that you feel like you need to cut out, think about all the new recipes and foods you will get to try if you start experimenting with more vegetables, more beans, more spices, etc.
Positive change is so much better which why like the Zen Weight Loss Tip above we feel that adding and focusing on healthier foods is a much better way to lose weight. As this blog post called 'Best Weight Loss Tip, Ever! ' helps demonstrate.
